Today in class we started off with some problems with multiplying binomials, it was kind of easy....
here is an example!
(3x+5)(2x-3)
=6x^2-9x+10x-15
= 6x^2+-15
Do you think you could do this? try a problem on your own... good luck! Just to tell you algebras is pretty hard!!
And the next scribe is Sam..

Today our class worked Substitution we first started with easy ones then we started with some like this...
A= 3x+4
B=2x-5
C=4x+1
(A+B)(B-C)
(3x+4+(2x-5)) (2x-5-(4x+1))
=(3x+4+2x-5) (2x-5-4x-1)
= (5x-1) (-2x-6)
= -10x^2-30x+2x+6
= -10^2-28x+6
algebras can be very tricky so this is what we did today in our math class.

Today In MATH!!
Today in Math we got our test back went over to qustions and then we did some workin in our texts book like:
4a+2a=6a
we are learning fractions like:
3/4xsquared-2/3xsquared
so this is what we did in math today
4a+2a=6a
we are learning fractions like:
3/4xsquared-2/3xsquared

Joe's Equation
Today we talk about Solving for X.
And this is my Equation
3x+10=x+6
3x+10-10=x+6-10
3x-x=x-x-4
2x/2=-4/4
x=2
And this is my Equation
3x+10=x+6
3x+10-10=x+6-10
3x-x=x-x-4
2x/2=-4/4
x=2

Jesse's Scribe Post.
Today we went on our computers and went on a math website. We worked hard. (very hard) then we completed that hard question that was for homework. We then proceeded to do word problems.
Monday, November 5, 2007
today in class we had a small quiz on solving for 'X'.
it was only for qustions but i only understood two of the.
we also reveiwed solving for x and did some notos on inequalities..
theres alot of things that i dont understand about solving for x but i think that with some help i'll start to understand more about it, same with my class mates.
the next scrib will be jesse..

Jesse's equation.
-3(2x+2) +4(x-3)=6+4x
-6x-6+4x-12=6+4x
-2x-18=6+4x
-2x-18+18=6-18+4x
-2x=-12+4x
-2x-4x=-12+4x-4x
-6x= -12
x= -12/-6
-6x-6+4x-12=6+4x
-2x-18=6+4x
-2x-18+18=6-18+4x

The hardest thing would probably be intervals. I found this the hardest of all!
The easiest thing would have to be Pythagorean Therom.
I understand that math is 90% percent listening. And 10% work!

What was the hardest thing about this unit?
-What i found the hardest this unit was knowing which category (rational, irrational, etc) that different numbers go into.
What was the easiest thing about this unit?
-I dont know exactly what i would consider the easiest concept to comprehend was, but i know that i have realized that math is about doing one step at a time.If u do that, you will realize that its all pretty logical after that.
What do you understand now that you did not understand before?
-Well theres obviously the whole hypotenuse thing that i had no clue about before, and at first, it looked kinda complicated but when u understand it, its pretty easy.

T.O.T
Hi everyone,
So, most of you have had a chance to be the scribe so you know how to post and I like your enthusiasm and willingness to try something different.
We just finished our first main unit and we covered a lot of material. I would like you to each take some time an answer the following questions.
What was the hardest thing about this unit?
What was the easiest thing about this unit?
What do you understand now that you did not understand before?
Please "copy and paste" the questions into your post, change the colour to something you like and write a few sentences which will answer the questions.
If you want to write exponents then use ^ like this. 3m^2.

The Job of the Scribe
So... it's your turn to be the class scribe and you're not quite sure what to do. Sound about right??
Try answering these questions in your scribe post:
- What did we do in class today?
- What did we learn during these activities?
- Was this new information or something I've seen in math or another class before?
- Was the material difficult or easy to understand?
- Is there something that I still don't understand and could ask my classmates to explain?
- Did anything else happen during class that would be fun to keep a record of?
Have fun and be creative. It is great to see examples, pictures and diagrams.
Remember this is a public forum:what you write represents yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and your school so blog responsibly and safely.
When you have finished your post, designate someone from the scribe list to post for the next class. The list is found in the coloumn on the right hand side. You may select anyone whose name is not crossed out and once we have gone through the list we will restart.

Let's get going
Okay folks....it's time to start blogging. You should all be listed as authors by now which means that you can "post" (write) on this blog. We have gone over the "Rules of Blogging" which you all understand so we should not have any issues on inappropriate material. If you do see any posts or comments which you think I should take a look at them email me directly. I will watch but it's always better to have many eyes.
Now, remember, this is public which means anyone can read it. Also remember.....we are all great at some things and less great at others.....so be honest and have some fun with this.
Yesterday, you worked on your first situational problem. It caused a bit of panic but you did okay.
For your first post I would like you to tell me what you thought about it...and perhaps what you think about math in general. let me know what you find easy...difficult...completely confusing.
We will use this exercise to make sure that you are all able to post.

Using "Grab"
USING GRAB
You can use Grab to taking “picture” of any screen or part of a screen. You can then change it to a jpeg file and upload it as an image to your post . Here is how.
Finder….MacIntosh HD……Applications….Utilities…..Grab
(Drag Grab to your toolbar for easy access later)
Once you are in “Grab”, choose “Capture” on the toolbar and then “Selection”. You can drag the rectangle over the part that you want to “grab” and when you let the cursor go it will “take a picture”. It is now saved as a .tiff file
Save in a place that you will remember. I suggest a "blog" file.
In order to post this image you need to change it to .jpeg
CHANGING TO A .jpeg.
Open the file which you just saved. Under the file menu click “save as’ then choose jpeg.
You will now be able to upload it as a picture.....like this. (My file is called Equation #2)

Smart Board Notebook
You have a very useful program installed on your computers which can be used to draw diagrams etc. It is supposed to be used with an electronic chalk board (called a Smartboard) but you can use it to draw diagrams and pictures to help explain things. There is one in the school somewhere so I'll try and hunt it down.
So...the program is called Smartboard Notebook...and this is where you will find it.
Below is an example of the fun you can have with the smartboard tool. To post it follow these steps.
1. Open the Smartboard notebook file and create your diagram.
2. On the toolbar choose "File" then "Export" then "Image Files"
3. Chose "desktop" (or choose another file to save it and choose "JPEG" as the format.
4. Upload the JPEG file.

Pledge of the Math Student in Trouble
For when you are frustrated remember this.........
The Pledge of the Math Student in Trouble
by Donald Edge
Although I think I'm not good at math,
the only thing I can't do is nothing
However,
I am allowed to cry
whine
complain
be impatient
be frustrated
be bad tempered
think of quitting
but only if .....
I try my hardest.

Number Theory
Hello everyone,
While waiting the arrival of your computers I have decided to create a summary what you have learned so far and give you an example of what a scribe post might look like.
We have looked at all of the Real numbers with lots of complaints about symbols. Remember the picture books when you were kids? They are the same kind of idea. Plus...a symbol takes less time to write than a whole word.
Key words are:
Real Numbers
Irrational Numbers
Rational Numbers
Integers
Natural numbers
Using the Appleworks program you can draw a diagram to illustrate what we did in class. I created the diagram using the "draw" selection from Appleworks. You may also use "paint". My only complaint is that you can only "undo" the last thing you did. I'm sure that if we put our brains together we can find the easiest way to create.

Drawing on photos
I had a brainwave tonight on how to do this with the least amount of problems while still having the ability to "undo" mistakes.
Method#1
The picture on the left was drawn on in Word, dragged to Appleworks and then saved as a JPEG file. I suggest this method as you can "undo" a number of steps. You just need to be careful that everything gets dragged. Hmm...doesn't always work so depending on the situation you might want to use this method or the one below.
Method#2
The one on the right was drawn on in Appleworks then saved as a JPEG file. Appleworks can only undo the last step....so I suggest the first method.
Welcome
Welcome to the 306-04 math blog. You first assignment will be coming shortly...as soon as you get your computers.
As most of us are new at blogging I expect that we will all learn a great deal. So...as usual...ask lots of questions and don't be afraid to try something new.
